Changes to Licensing Process

Back at the business meeting portion of Oasis last August, changes to the Regulations Concerning the Ministry were passed. These changes are now in effect and will modify the usual ‘fall interviews’ for candidates seeking to obtain or renew their association license.

These changes apply to both designations of license:
• License for ministry (towards ordination)
• License for lay ministry (towards the recognized CBAC lay leader registry)

Listed below is an identification of these changes as it applies to churches.

1/ The Church License and the Association License now combined in one license-to-minister.
While candidates for licensing should continue to hold active membership in a CBAC church for at least a year, they will no longer require a church license as a prerequisite for a license interview.

2/ The licensing interview will be comprised of up to 3 appointed members from the candidate’s local church, and the Association licensing committee (max of 5 persons), conducting the interview together.

Please note:
For this fall, licensing interviews are scheduled for Saturday March 19th, at New Life Church (1760 Prospect Road, Hatchet Lake, NS). Those candidates seeking a license / renewal of license, will be scheduled with an appointment time. Up to 3 members from the candidate’s local church will also be expected to attend at the appointment time,
as the interview will be combined with the Association committee.

3/ Licenses will be increased from 1 year to 2 years in duration. Instead of the candidate appearing annually for an interview to renew their license, the time frame is now 2 years.

The License to Minister is intended to be an affirmation to the candidate of their calling and giftings for ministry. The licensing process is an opportunity to bring encouragement, wisdom, and counsel. Prayer is also an important part of the interview time.

The full copy of the Joint Notice of Motion of these changes, as well as a summary document from Oasis is attached. CBAC will also be issuing a ‘tool kit’ sometime this fall to help churches and associations with these changes.

Any questions / comments, please contact – Darren Millett (902-476-2233 or This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.), from the HRUBA licensing committee.

Sincerely in Christ -
